Review: Thank you Jack for a fantastic one to one session on Exmoor and at Dunster church. I now feel ready to use my new camera settings on our travels. As a beginner I really appreciated your patience, clear explanations and the additional follow up information you sent me. It was clear that you are a consummate professional who is passionate about good photography. I had a memorable and fun day.

I am thrilled that the National Trust has chosen us again to participate in this new venture and I can’t wait to introduce new customers to what is the wonderful world of photography. These workshops will be a great addition to the portfolio we now offer, the Castle and gardens really do offer a spectacular backdrop for many stunning and varied photographic opportunities through the seasons. Red Deer Rut Diary Week 4
Another week done and dusted. More lovely customers and great memories made. Our job is so much easier when everybody respects our morning briefing about ethical wildlife photography and how to stalk red deer properly. I can’t stress enough how well everyone did this again all week. 👏 👏
Obviously my local knowledge and spotting puts us in all the right places to start with but Jamie and me have both commented on what an absolute pleasure this month ha s been in no small measure because of everybody’s great company, effort and great stalking.
I even had some polite giggles too my jokes, from customers anyway. 😁 Thanks everyone.
Loads of great stags found and some interesting activity observed. Even some fights on the very last day of the season! It’s such a bonus that all the autumnal colours are there to give us some beautiful backdrops. And even some mist for that ethereal look.
Oh and ‘I seen a Robin’. 😂 😂
Massive thanks to Jamie & Alison it’s a team effort I simply couldn’t do it with out you guys, thank you 🙏
See you all next season
Time for a rest before landscape courses next week.

Dunster Castle out door photography workshop (03 06 2019)
Another lovely day at Dunster Castle last Monday. We had four very different cameras this time, however everyone’s knowledge was similar. Part of Jacks job is having a working knowledge of most makes and models of our customer’s cameras. Lovely guest again who were great company and a pleasure to teach and help with their photographic journey.

Please use link below for some of our customer reviews including this workshop. We run our Kingfisher workshops (fully booked) etc for the next few weeks, so the next month we will back at Dunster Castle is September which is also fully booked. However, there are still some spaces available for the workshops in November.

Dunster Castle out door photography workshop
Another lovely day at Dunster Castle on Monday. We were again blessed with perfect weather. We had four gentlemen this time who were all great fun and company, they even laughed at some of my jokes. We had four very different cameras all of which I knew well (part of my job). All the guest were of a similar level knowledge wise (complete beginners to some experience), which is great but we can flexible with any level. Anyway enough from me I have included some reviews from Mondays guests:

‘Richard Dick Ashdown recommends Exmoor Photography Nature & Wildlife Images by Jack Clegg: "Attended Dunster castle workshop 20/5/19 as a complete novice with my Nikon D3100 came away feeling 100% more confident. Jack & Jamie so informative and passionate definitely rubbed off on me I can’t wait to get out with my camera now. Nothing was too much trouble both took the time to explain different changes to the camera and why resulting in great photos lovely location and great little places to get some great photos. Lunch was lovely at the mill tea room and Alison’s flapjack was lovely too. Definitely recommend one of these workshops if you want to get to know your camera better/get off auto/and take some great photos. Well done guys 10/10"

‘Hello Jack Thank you very much for an interesting, instructional and informative workshop conducted by you , Jamie and assistance from Alison too. I am very grateful to you for helping me to understand some of the functions built in to my camera and how their use can enhance even my simple attempts. I will take my camera with me on some walks and set aside time to take photographs when I come across interesting views, plants and even try to take wild life. I enjoyed the day, learnt a lot and certainly will try and do the right things when using my camera. Many thanks to you all for your patience with a complete novice. Best wishes Kind regards Michael’

We have completed several of the new workshops at Dunster castle now in partnership with the National Trust. We have had lovely guest and it has been a pleasure as always helping them with their photography.Mondays workshops last week was no exception. We were blessed with perfect weather, lovely guest who were great fun and company. The castle grounds really are looking amazing at the moment. I must also mention how friendly, polite and welcoming all the NT staff have been and also the delicious lunch they provide at the Mill tea rooms for us. Another successful day and I am really looking forward to the next one.I have included a couple of the reviews received from the Dunster Castle workshop guest (with their permission) below.

'Hi Jack & Alison Thank you for your email with the information on the lenses and tripods. I apologise for the late reply, I've had a busy week and haven't had a chance to catch up on my emails. I wanted to thank you both and Jamie for a great day on Monday, It was a really lovely group and you all made us feel so at ease. I learnt a lot and have taken my camera out of it's bag more this weekend than I have for a long time. If I am going to buy a new camera or lens I will take you up on your kind offer of advice. Thanks again Ali’

'Hello Jack

Thank you for your email, I really enjoyed the day spent at Dunster Castle with you and your team. Every time I take my dog for a walk my camera goes with us now, just practising the techniques and set ups that was shown to us. I wish I knew this information before I travelled abroad on safari, I still have good photos, but feel they will be better next time!’ Anyway, thanks again for the day. Regards Norman

Myself, Alison and Jamie (the Exmoor Photography team) had our final meeting with Sarah from the National Trust this week at Dunster Castle. Everything is of course ready and in place. However, we thought a final ‘touch’ base would be sensible and we wanted to introduce Jamie to Sarah.
There are still spaces available for the first workshop on Monday the 4th March and through the year (see event dates above). Simply click on the ‘tickets’ link above, for more information, ava ilability and booking.
I must admit that walking around the site again after the meeting I felt that I was really starting to get a feel for the venue, it is such a tranquil and relaxing place to visit. There are so many inspiring views and photographic compositions, almost as you turn every corner. The grounds, gardens, river, bridges, architecture and of course the surrounding views really do offer a stunning backdrop for this new workshop. I can’t wait to show them to our customers, while of course explaining the best settings on your own camera as we go. We will never make you feel awkward or embarrassed if you don’t understand something straight away and guarantee you will finish the day knowing more than you did when you started. ‘The unique experience Jack provides also ensures that the small intimate group numbers allow all the 1:1 time you need. And don’t forget everybody receives Jacks laminated field guide handouts.’ The price includes a light lunch, refreshments and the entrance fee to the site on the day of your workshop.
As with the majority of workshops and courses we run, we always try to accommodate anyone with restricted mobility if we possibly can. There are a limited number of trampers available for use at the Castle and of course you can use your own mobility scooter if you have one. I have a limited walking range myself (due to injury) therefore I have made sure the grounds and locations we use are all accessible.
Alison and I would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Dunster Castle for their very warm and friendly welcome and particularly Sarah (Assistant Visitor Services Manager)
for all her help and assistance. I have attached a small album to show you some of the images will show you on your day. Please do not hesitate to contact us via the Exmoor Photography website link if we can be of further assistance.
