Standard Landscape Course

STANDARD LANDSCAPE COURSE - Info Page
The Standard Landscape Photography course is for complete beginners up to an intermediate level.
Jack will take you through an A-Z of the most useful settings on your camera and show you all the settings and features listed below ‘what you will learn’.The Course numbers are limited to a maximum of three, so you will have all the one to one time you require, with either Jack and/or staff.
You do not have to have an expensive camera, just a desire to learn / improve your photography and how to get the most from your camera. It doesn’t matter if you have small compact camera or a full-blown SLR with all the bells and whistles! NB It would be helpful if your camera has settings that allow you to take some manual control of it, ie aperture and shutter priority for example.
If your not sure please ask Jack for advice. We also have cameras that you can hire on your course day,  starting at £29.00 (no deposit required), so you can try before you buy.
We also have a selection of Canon L & Nikon N series lenses that you can hire on your course day, starting at £35.00 (no deposit required).

This course is completely field based and during your day with us, we will visit several picturesque locations, teaching you different photographic techniques while capturing the stunning variety of landscapes that Exmoor has to offer. Of course, if we see any wildlife on the way we will stop and have a look. Exmoor Photography supplies lunch and we always have a supply wife Alison’s legendary flapjack & homemade cakes on board.

The Course numbers are limited to a maximum of three, so you will have all the one to one time you require, with either Jack and/or staff. Obviously, we understand that people’s knowledge and requirements will differ, so what we show you during the course is designed to be flexible and adaptable to your individual ability level, starting with the basics of photography, taking you off ‘auto mode’, by showing you other settings on your camera that perhaps you have never used or completely understood. We will always ensure that you have plenty of time to develop some or all of the techniques listed below.

Jack has created a laminated course handout that you will be given at the 'meet & greet' at the beginning of your day. This is yours to keep and provide a useful reference for you to use, next time you take your camera out on your own!

We have several itineraries that we will follow; the locations we visit will be very much dependent on the weather and time of year. Part of the beauty of Exmoor is the ever-changing seasons and we will always try to take you to locations that best demonstrate the natural splendour of this. The locations have been carefully chosen by Jack to offer you a variety of photographic opportunities and subjects that we hope will challenge, inspire and encourage you to be creative in your photography.
When we visit Dunster, Exmoor Photography has permission to enter the Deer Park at Dunster Castle and a delightful little hidden church garden in the village. I am delighted that we can take you to the Deer Park, because it offers us a wealth of photographic opportunities at this stunning historic location.
Exmoor Photography also has permission to transport our course members down to Watersmeet House, when we visit this location. This will benefit anyone who may otherwise have difficulty walking down to Watersmeet and back up to the car park.

Exmoor Photography is licensed by the National Trust to use several off road tracks during the courses, these will only be used when weather permits and when necessary. We have obtained this license to assist our customers who may have walking difficulties.

Please note that courses may be postponed if adverse weather conditions are forecast. Jack keeps a close eye on the weather forecast and may postpone the course the day before if necessary. We do not expect our customers to participate on the course in pouring rain!
Please note we do take other professional photographers on any of our courses.

They are designed to educate, be fun, relaxed, and hopefully enjoyable! We pride ourselves on providing first class customer service here at Exmoor Photography, something that is supported by our  customer reviews.

Our Vehicle
Jack was trained to a very high ‘advanced’ standard to drive while in the service.
We use a new Ford Kuga that will comfortably seat 3 guests and their equipment, the vehicle is maintained to a very high standard, it has dual zone air conditioning for your comfort and heated front seats! The vehicle is fitted with a ‘cold climate pack’ heated windscreen etc.  Although we do not intend to go ‘off road’ and ‘bounce’ you and your camera equipment about while on the course, the vehicle is fitted with ‘all terrain’ tyres that give enhanced traction. We carry a BSI compliant (BS-8599-1) first aid kit on board & a fire extinguisher.

Standard courses -
Exclusive one to one

During the Standard Course as above, we often take three customers out on each course.
This is a comfortable number and has proven to be a sensible limit that allows plenty of one to one tuition from Jack & Jamie in a relaxed and intimate learning environment.
However, if you would like the course to yourself (guaranteed) then for a nominal additional fee you will have Jack & Jamie all to yourself for the day. We will not book any other customers on the date of your course. The Price for this ‘single person’ Exclusive Standard Course is £219.00
